Countryside®
Herb Farms
hand-crafted products began more than forty years ago by
entrepreneur and herbalist Joan Marie. The Farm supplied organically-grown produce to gourmet grocery markets,
health-food stores and fine
restaurants throughout the tri-state region of Pennsylvania, New York
and Ohio. The Countryside Herb Farms was
a popular mail-order source for dried herbs, spices and seasoning mixes.
During the summer months, Joan Marie hosted guided tours
of the fields and greenhouses, where visitors could touch, smell and even
taste the growing herbs. After the tour, visitors could relax inside
the company gift shop with an herbal
tea, purchase live herb plants, gardening books or discover a
custom-blended fragrance. Joan Marie was also editor and publisher of a
quarterly newsletter about organic farming techniques, appearing on television and radio programs promoting the culinary and medicinal uses of herbs,
traditional herbal crafts, herbal medicines, aromatherapy and the art of making potpourri.
In 1979,
Countryside®
Herb Farms pioneered development of decorative home
fragrances and began manufacturing private-label home fragrances for cosmetic and perfume companies.
Within a few years, increasing sales
volumes made the company an important global manufacturer of customized
home fragrance products.
Countryside®
prospered by inventing many new forms of home fragrance packaging,
including the ceramic light bulb diffuser now
used in hotels, spas, salons, hospitals, assisted-living and medical centers.
Today, the brand continues to excel in fine gift, luxury
specialty boutiques and department stores throughout the world.
WHAT IS DECORATIVE POTPOURRI? | Decorative Home Fragrances
Long before, modern chemical and electrical
air fresheners, bouquets of fragrant herbs and flowers were used to
revitalize the household atmosphere. In old stone castles,
bouquets of fragrant herbs and flowers were scattered over the floors to
counteract the musty odors caused by the lack of ventilation.
Before the days of moth-balls and insect
repellents, herbalists concocted mixtures of herbs known to repel
insects and moths. Herbalists discovered that long lasting
fragrances could be produced from herbs, flowers and spices, mixed
together and aged with fragrant oils. These mixtures were placed
into small bags and hung in wardrobes that later became known as
potpourri and sachets.
Herbs had many purposes in early homes;
freshening the air, repelling insects, discouraging the musty odor of
drawers and closets, encouraging sleep, absorbing cooking odors,
soothing infants, flavoring meals and treating most illnesses.
Potpourri was used as room decorations in
beautiful glass containers, handcrafted pots, carved wooden boxes and
placed upon ceramic dishes so the mixture could be viewed while the
fragrance filled the air. Beautiful embroidered pillows were
frequently filled with pleasant smelling herbs and flower mixtures.
Most dressing tables contained a sachet filled with rosebuds and
lavender flowers.
Countryside®
potpourri is enjoying unprecedented global popularity with consumers
placing greater value on the use of natural home fragrances in their
homes and workplaces.
COUNTRYSIDE® POTPOURRI | Handcrafted in
Pennsylvania
Today, Countryside® craftspeople maintain the tradition
of hand-crafted quality pioneered by Joan Marie back in 1965. The company
has evolved into a service-oriented organization committed to integrity,
quality, environmental protection and social responsibility. Countryside®
does not support the testing of animals in fragrance and cosmetic research
because alternative safety testing procedures are now available to the
fragrance industry. Countryside® is one of few fragrance manufacturers
labeling all product ingredients to safeguard children and pets and the
company will continue to lobby for consumer safety and product ingredient
disclosure for all household chemicals, cosmetics and bath products.
Countryside® maintains a commitment to quality, service and a special
commitment to raise money for charitable and educational organizations.
Countryside® products are all about
bringing the beauty and balance of nature indoors and back into your
life.
